HOUSING PROGRAM

Housing is defined as “A variety of processes through which habitable, stable and sustainable public and private residential environments are created for viable households and communities. This recognizes that the environment in which a house is situated is as important as the house itself in satisfying the needs and requirements of the occupants” Though Housing is a basic right of humans but this right is not always accessible for all in Bangladesh. Poor housing conditions aggravated by lack of adequate services adversely contribute to poor health, productivity and hence income among the poor’. Each year many people die due to destruction of houses in the stormy weather during cyclones especially in Chittagong district.
In Bangladesh a certain percentage of the population are not only ill-fed and ill-clad but also homeless, which makes them more vulnerable to sun, heat, rain and abnormal environments. Moreover, each year thousands of people in Bangladesh become homeless due to floods and cyclones. In most of the cases people who are in extreme poverty suffer most as they can not build or repair their houses and live in extremely difficult conditions. Otherwise these homeless poor peoples will become a burden, migrate to the urban areas and hamper our development activities as well as to achieve the milestone of MGD. To engage this portion of people into the mainstream of national development BARNALY has been implementing a housing program for the marginalized people in Potiya Upazilla of Chittagong District since 2005 with the financial assistance of Bangladesh Bank.
