FORESTY

Bangladesh was famous for its evergreen/ semi evergreen tropical and world famous mangrove forest. But over the years due to over exploitation of forests and its non-participatory management, more than 50% of the forest resources have been depleted. According to the World Bank Bangladesh loses its forest lands by about 3.3% every year. The environment of Chittagong division is very much suitable for forest. But lack of proper planning and management a lot of areas are abandoned in this division. To improve the scenario and increase the land-forest ration, Barnaly has undertaken a forestation program since 2010.
Objectives
- To encourage new plantations.
- To increase the forest areas of Bangladesh and
- To utilize the abundant areas by plantation.
Achievements
Forestation program is successfully implemented in the Chakoria Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district by active participation of the community. Initially Barnaly covered about 10 acres of hilly land with massive woody and fruit tree plantation. Moreover, Barnaly distributes free seeds and plants among the local peoples.
